When deciding on this composition, I simply wanted to explore the vibrancy and grace with which these gorgeous creatures move, and the serenity in which they instill in the eye of their beholder. However, in studying the origins and myths surrounding koi, I felt even more connected to the subject due to their symbolism. In life, we are all on a mission to discover our purpose, and even though at times it would be easier to follow the often trodden path; for those who dare to face the unknown - life can transform into a work of art. At times this path can seem insurmountable, but with the strength of mind and will, one can overcome what seems to be impossible. This painting serves as a reminder that we can overcome life's challenges and continue on our way upstream.
